Daily Inspirational Book for LDS Families

This page-a-day desktop book for families will feature short inspirational messages for parents to read aloud to their children each night or for older children to read on their own. As these poems, fables, and testimonies are read, I hope that families will be uplifted and inspired.

The book will also include personal experiences under themes such as "Random Acts of Kindness", "The Power of Prayer", "Strength in the Scriptures", and "Missionary Moments".   If you would like to share a personal experience to be included the calendar, please send your submission to LDSsisters@hotmail.com by May 15th. You must have your parent’s permission to send in a submission if you are under 18. A portion of the proceeds from this book will be given to the Church’s Perpetual Education Fund.

Here are some example submissions:

"Random Acts of Kindness"

As a child, my greatest example was my older sister Lisa. When I was thirteen there was a boy in my neighborhood who was shy and sometimes teased by others. Once during a church activity, my sister Lisa noticed that this boy was sitting in the back of the chapel by himself. He was crying. Lisa could tell that he was very sad and wondered if it was because he felt like he didn’t fit in. A few days later I accompanied Lisa as she anonymously left a new tie, a bag of candy, and kind note for this boy on his doorstep. Matthew 25:40 reads, "Inasmuch as ye have adone it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

"The Power of Prayer":

Whenever my scout troop goes camping, we like to hike. We had done a lot of hiking, so when I found out that we were going to do a difficult hike up to a lake a few years ago; I thought that with my experience, I could do it. At the base of the mountain, it was decided that I was going to carry the tent for myself and a few others. It was a small tent, but I did not realize how much of a burden it was going to be. Half-way up the mountain, I realized that it was way steeper than I thought. I felt like I was going to collapse and wanted to quit. I knew that I couldn’t go back to the car and wait over night. My fellow scouts were counting on me to carry essential parts of the tent. I decided to say a prayer asking for strength to finish the hike safely. The second that I finished, I felt a rush of energy. I knew that the Lord had heard my prayer and answered it. This experience has strengthened my testimony, and has taught me to never give up. I know now with all my heart, that if we pray, God will hear our prayers and answer them.

"Strength in the Scriptures":

"For with God nothing shall be impossible." -Luke 1:37

This scripture, even though it's very small, has always meant the world to me. Through every hard time and every trial that I go through, no matter what, this scripture always comes to my mind. He is always going to be there for me. Whether it’s a small trial or big one, He always lets me know somehow that He is there watching over me. Heavenly Father is always there, not because He has to be, but because He wants to be there for us. If we promise Him that we will do our part, Heavenly Father will always do His. I love my Heavenly Father with all my heart and I will do everything it takes to get back to live with Him again.

"Missionary Moment":

"He who gives money gives much, he who gives time gives more, but he who gives of himself gives all."

This is my favourite quote because it is true! As missionaries and members of Christ's church we are to give of ourselves. We have covenanted with a "determination to serve Him to the end." I have found no greater joy than serving the people of England and Wales by sharing with them the restored gospel, by sharing with them the ultimate sacrifice and service Christ has given us through His Atonement. If you want to be happy--serve. If you want to bring someone else happiness--serve. Christ is the reason. Joy is the reward.
